Paul Pogba Fails to Travel With Man Utd Squad Ahead of Arsenal Clash

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has not travelled to London with the rest of his teammates ahead of their match against Arsenal on New Year's Day.

The France international has made two appearances for United since returning from an ankle injury he picked up in their reverse fixture against Arsenal in September, but Pogba was left out of their most recent squad which travelled to Burnley.

Ahead of their trip to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, the Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst has confirmed that Pogba did not make the journey down to London with the rest of his Manchester United teammates.

That news came just hours after manager Ole Gunnar Solskaer said that Pogba, who last started a match against the Gunners at Old Trafford in September, would be part of United's squad on Wednesday.

Asked if Pogba would make the journey, Solskjaer said (via United's official website): "Yeah, I would think so."

Although Pogba didn't travel with the rest of his teammates ahead of their match against Arsenal, that hasn't completely ruled him out of featuring as the game as he could make own way to north London before the game.

Included in Manchester United's travelling squad were youngsters Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, while Scott McTominay - who scored against Arsenal at Old Trafford - is their only new injury concern. He could miss as many as eight weeks following an injury he sustained against Newcastle.

With Pogba's availability still unsure, opponents Arsenal could be boosted by the return of some of their key first-team players on New Year's Day.

Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding could return after spells on the sidelines through injury, while Dani Ceballos, Gabriel Martinelli and Granit Xhaka are all being assessed by Arsenal's staff.
