PFA TRY AND EARN THEIR SUBS

PFA chairman Gordon Taylor, who attended the meeting with Ferdinand, said he was hopeful the matter would now be resolved 'within the next seven days.'
There are few precedents to indicate what fate awaits Ferdinand, who took - and passed - the test 36 hours later, though he is sure to be hit at least with the charge of failing to attend an anti-doping test.

Taylor was highly critical of the FA's handling of the whole affair, suggesting that Ferdinand's case had been prejudiced by his name being made public.

'We attempt to maintain confidentiality until the due process has been followed. The due process has begun today. The nature of the game is so high profile, it's very difficult to maintain confidentiality. Once the decision is taken to leave him out of the squad, it was inevitable he would be named so I would hope that would be taken into consideration with what Rio's got to say.'
