PHIL WELCOMES THE BREAK

Phil Neville, “We have two cup games on the trot now, so maybe we can benefit from that. I'm sure the manager intends to change things around a little bit for the Exeter game and give some of the fringe players a chance.

“It's the time of the season when games are coming thick and fast and everyone gets an opportunity. Maybe it's slightly different this time because we have so many injuries but the manager likes to keep everyone involved and the next week provides a good chance for him to do that.”

Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher have also warned that Exeter cannot be underestimated. Giggs said, “No matter what team the manager picks we have to get the job done. Exeter will be coming here to enjoy the game and enjoy the experience of playing at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

“But they will also have at the back of their minds the knowledge that they could become heroes - not just for the day, for a long, long time. There is always that apprehension before an FA Cup tie; anything can happen - dubious penalties, a player getting sent off. We need to be at them from the start and be professional like we always are.”

Darren Fletcher echoed the clichés, “It's an important game for us. As we see it, it is our trophy and we are looking to defend it. We'll be doing the correct job to try and get the win.”

“For some of their players it is the biggest game of their life. We have to do a professional job and give Exeter the respect they deserve. The event and the atmosphere can work both ways. Some players can be a bit intimidated by it or they could thrive on the atmosphere.

“But they are under no pressure. I'm sure their manager will be telling them to go out and enjoy themselves and play good football because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We've got to treat them with respect, but we also know that if we do our job right we will win the game.”

Phil Neville also reiterated his desire to stay at Old Trafford, “The transfer window may have opened but it doesn't mean anything to me because I don't want to leave. I feel a lot better about things now and I suppose it's obvious the more you play the happier you are. I'm making a contribution now and this is going to be a big month for us, so I'm looking forward to it.”
