PLAYERS SPLASH OUT

From the People:

The brawl with Arsenal still fresh in his mind, Manchester
United star Ruud van Nistelrooy flexed his financial muscle
to treat himself in midweek.

The £19 million Dutchman, reputed to be on around £50,000 a
week, dipped into his petty cash to splash out £4,500 on a
shirt signed by ... Ruud van Nistelrooy!

United's hot-shot striker may not have many admirers down at
Highbury, but that didn't stop him boosting his own ego with
a hefty bid for his own shirt in aid of UNICEF coffers
during a gala fund-raising dinner in Manchester.

To be fair to Ruud, the number 10 jersey wasn't just signed
by him - Old Trafford legend Denis Law and former striker
Brian McClair also put their scribble on the prized
possession.

Van Nistelrooy was eclipsed when it came to big spending,
though, by defensive pal Rio Ferdinand.

The £29million defender forked out £7,000 for a signed print
of former United captains Bobby Charlton and Bryan Robson as
well as current skipper Roy Keane.
