PLAYING FOR PRIDE

"We have got the European Cup we all wanted," purred Ferguson.

"All the great teams are there. You look at some of these clubs and the weight of history they carry. That is where we want to be. Over the past few seasons maybe ourselves, Real Madrid and Juventus have been the most consistent and there will probably be teams who want to avoid us. But there are so many types of danger and on a given day they can all beat each other."

"AC Milan have scored three goals so far, yet they have got 10 points. That is an amazing statistic," said Ferguson.

"They have one way of approaching it, Real Madrid, with so many dangers and their ability to score goals out of nothing, have another. How can you possibly choose which one you would prefer to play against?"

"Why I would like to win the game is because our home record is so good at Old Trafford in the last few years and I want to maintain that. It’s essential that the pride factor shows itself in games like this."
