POWERLESS

Karl Power who once managed to get on a team photo with United before a
match with Bayern Munich in 2001 has been locked up for benefit fraud.
Manchester Crown Court heard that someone recognised him from TV pictures and then grassed him up to the authorities.

Power, from Droylsden, has been unable to work since he was the victim of a
machete attack in 1994. But he failed to declare he had moved in with his
girlfriend and continued claiming more than he should have done.

Judge Anthony Ensor told him: "You were caught by your vanity and addiction to self-publicity at sporting events."

Government anti-fraud minister Chris Pond said: "This fraudster's 15 minutes of fame landed him in jail and he'll pay back every penny."
