Below par performance

We should beat these teams really, the number of opportunities we had, the number of opportunities we had to get to the byline and to play balls back or to the back post, you know it's unbelievable the chances we had but when you're 1-0 down with ten minues to go you've got to take something from it and we did. I think the first half we were a bit slow in the build up, we didn't quicken up the pace enough. I think maybe Wayne suffered from his first game, he wasn't as sharp and I think it happens - 96 days without a game and then he plays his first on Tuesday, adrenaline helps him but today he was a bit lead-like I think.

Downing's goal

It was a great finish, a marvellous finish from the boy. Hit it right on the drop, the ball came off the top really quickly, you've got to give him 10 out of 10 for that.

Super sub Smith

Alan did a fantastic job when he came on. He disrupted proceedings, scored a goal and he's done great for us.

Tough team selection

We've got to pay attention to it and make sure we pick the right teams. We've got a great bunch of lads and they all showed their desire today and the ones who come in will show their desire too becausethere's a great buzz about the place now.

Internationals a distraction?

I think it's good to get them out of the road early on. Once you do that then we've got a free run through til March after these Internationals. That gives you plenty of time to build up.

Falling behind in the title race

It's early doors so far, we want to make up ground but as I said a couple of weeks ago, you've got to do that bit by bit. You can't just all of a sudden accumulate the points and get behind Arsenal in one game, it's going to take time. It's a long marathon, believe me.
