PRESS UNFAIR ON KEANE

Speaking to the Evening News he said that he felt that the
press have been unfair in the criticism of Keano after the
Madrid match.

"It was unfair because I played him in a position which was
difficult for him. Once he got into the battle in the second
half he was much better. He needs to be in the battle, but
he is in the midstream of changing his game a little bit,
and he found it difficult in the first half.

"He needs to be in a fight, 'me against you'. The Arsenal
game on Wednesday will suit him more because there will be
battles all over the pitch.

"I'm not surprised by the flack he has taken because Roy is
not beholding to the press. He has never patronised them, or
socialised with them, he is not in anyone's contacts book so
that they can phone him up, or in their appointments diary
so they can have lunch or anything like that, so he is going
to get stick. It's a fact of life.

"There were one or two players on the pitch who, because of
their profile don't get the criticism, but Roy, because of
the character he is and what he stands for, is always going
to get the stick. So I am not surprised."
