PROFITS DOWN – THE WHERES AND THE WHYS

Group turnover was £91.6m down slightly from last year’s £92.4m. Media revenue dropped by 28%, we made £5.8m less from Champions League revenue. Staff costs rose from £37.7m to £42.7m – and are now 46.6% of turnover compared to 40.8% last year.

Operating profits are down from £39.7m last year to £28.4m this year, however matchday revenues are up by 22% and commercial revenue also rose by 2%. The half yearly profits are down from £26.8m to 12.4m.


Chairman Sir Roy Gardner spoke about the rise in wages as a percentage of turnover, and the difficulty of keeping that figure down, "Player wage control remains difficult, particularly with the strong competitive pressures from a small number of rival clubs across Europe."
