“This is the best opportunity I have had to establish
myself," said Fortune "I don't care where I play, just as
long as I am involved. For the first time I don't feel as
though I am playing catch-up, I really feel ready to go.
"There has never been a point where I doubted that I would
make it here. It is all about patience. In the past it has
been difficult because I've had injuries and then been away
with South Africa, but the longer I stay here and play with
the team, the better it will be for me.”
He feels that playing in defence can help his game improve:
"Playing at left-back is something that can definitely help
my game. I study Gary Neville and John O'Shea and try to
pick things up from them and feel as though I am capable of
doing a job for the team.
"I played a lot of the pre-season matches and have been
around all the time, which has been a bonus as well. Now I
just want to carry on working hard and hopefully get a
decent run in the side."
