SAF:

” A 3-0 scoreline is very good. I am pleased with that but we have had to work for it.

"West Ham had a go. They kept their belief and I think that gives them a terrific chance. You have to have character to get yourselves out of that position and they showed that.

"We played some fantastic football at times. In the first half we could have scored a few goals but credit to West Ham because they kept going and made it difficult at times.

"Veron`s goal was fantastic but we got an own goal for the third one and that is the kind of luck we weren't getting.

"But now we have a good idea how the league is shaping up and we are in with a chance."

Glenn Roeder:

"We've come here and met a Manchester United side in full flow. You can't hide behind excuses, you have to say they played some fantastic football. They moved the ball very quickly and very well, which was borne out by their first goal and the third, the way they shifted it from one side to the other very quickly. They'd give any defence in the world major problems playing like that."

BECKS ICE

Dave leaves O.T. with ice pack on knee

From The People:

David Beckham gave Manchester United another injury scare last night after leaving Old Trafford with his right knee strapped with an ice-pack.

The United and England star has only just returned after broken ribs, which kept him out for six matches.

But he took a heavy whack on his knee in the second half of United's 3-0 cruise over West Ham and was seen with a heavy duty bandage around the injury as he took part in an after-match warm-down.

The England skipper was clearly in trouble as he tried to go through the light exercise routine, with his leg strapped heavily with an ice bandage.

A friend said last night: "David is hoping it is nothing serious and will ease off after rest.

"He is going home to elevate his right leg and hopes it will settle down."

Beckham is expected to be in at United's Carrington training ground this morning for a date with the medical team.
