QUOTES AND ALL THAT

Fergie:

'Tim made some excellent saves, he's made the difference for us today.

'I thought we should have been further ahead at half-time, but the sending-off changed the nature of the game. We had to defend more in the second half, but our counter-attacking was fantastic. We could have had five goals after half-time.'

On Gaz Nev: 'The referee has said he's booked him for diving, but why did he not go to him straight away and do that?'

'He didn't get the yellow card out for at least 30 seconds.'

'Gary deserved to be sent off, you can't do things like that and he knows it.

'It's out of character, I think he's only been sent off once before, but he let himself down.

‘Steve McManaman was aggressive towards him. He put his head into him but Gary's reaction was silly. He let himself down.

"McManaman has seen it all before. I don't know what his role is in a football match. He certainly intimidated Gary.''

Baseball Bat:

"There was enough there but we've probably been beaten by the better side on the day. It wasn't meant to be, was it? Now there's only one thing to concentrate on and that's getting this club back up the table where I think it belongs.

‘They were more clinical in front of goal than us,

'They are a quality side, after all, and they really stuck their chances away. We created a lot - at least we could say we made some use of the extra man - but we weren't able to punish United.'

On Gaz Nev: ‘Neville is not that type of player but he did definitely moved his head. The referee did what he had to do.’

Tim Howard:

“I thought the first derby was exciting. Little did I know.

“I have never played in a game like that one before. It had everything, including some things we maybe could have done without having.”

On his performance yesterday: “It’s just a reaction thing.

“Sometimes you don’t know anything about it. You just try to be big and play the percentages. They had a lot of chances and they could have broken our back but we stuck at it and fortunately that one went over.

“The whole occasion yesterday is so hard to describe,” said Howard.

“The atmosphere was fantastic. I have never experienced anything like that in my whole career.

“We are only two games away from the final now but the thing is I don’t know what to expect. It is only my first season so I’m just trying to enjoy every step.”

McManaman:

"It was a passionate Manchester derby with lots being said about the game beforehand.

"As far as I am concerned it was a nothing event. I have almost forgotten about it.

"I am more upset about conceding goals or not converting chances than that incident with Gary.

"I have seen the challenge. I wasn't happy with people appealing for a penalty that was all. It was handbags after that - nothing at all.

"Things were said but that's what happens. He made a bit of contact with my face but it was nothing really."
