RED CARD WAS RIGHT

The ref who sent Wayne Rooney off has defended his decision. Kim Milton Nielsen said:

"When a player does this kind of thing to humiliate a referee then there is no option. What else could I do?" he said.

"I feel like I have done the right thing. I had a rough time before when I sent off Beckham but there was still no doubt in my mind after Rooney made that gesture to me.

"The words he also used were so colourful in themselves that they could have made for a red card even if he had not clapped.

"It was an easy game to referee apart from the Rooney incident and after the game the English players came to me and thanked me for being fair in the match. There was no problem."
