“United are a stable ship while Chelsea are nothing more than a fad at the moment. Abramovich could decide to leave tomorrow if he wanted. That would leave Chelsea high and dry.”

ARTHUR ALBISTON, insisted:

“I don’t think too many fans will be concerned because he doesn’t play centre-forward.He is not someone who people pay money to come and watch and losing him is nothing like losing David Beckham or Carlos Queiroz..United are a well-run club that never stands still and, with all due respect to Peter, that won’t change just because he has gone.”

Former manager WILF McGUINESS added:

“People talk about loyalty but it is also a profession for Peter. The club can live without him and the man at the helm, Fergie, is pretty good. I don’t think it will affect matters out on the pitch which is what people are really concerned about.”
