Tony Lloyd, who is a long standing IMUSA member and SU Patron, had asked the Department for Trade and Industry to block the potential takeover on public interest grounds but the Government has rejected his pleas for assistance:
"We don't believe there is a case for changing the Enterprise Act to allow for takeovers of football clubs to be looked at on non-competition grounds," said a DTI spokesman.
