REVERSALS

‘The Reds rarely looked in danger of losing to a young Bradford side, who had suffered a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool just a few weeks ago.

The Bantams might have been fearing a similar rout when they turned up at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground, as they were the victims of United's biggest win last season, 7-2.

In the end, Mike Phelan's team had to be content with 2-0. Scottish Under-21 international Michael Stewart scored on the brink of half-time. Chris Humphreys hit the second goal in the 77th minute.

Daniel Nardiello was unfortunate not to add to his goals account and his ever-growing reputation as a prolific marksman. The United striker managed to hit the left post and right post, one in each half.

United's next game will be at home to Manchester City in the Manchester Senior Cup on Thursday 3 October. Their next league game will be away to Blackburn Rovers, five days later.’
