RIO – IT IS THE STRIKERS' FAULT

Rio, "A club like United does not have time for periods of transition and change and getting used to situations. You have to get in straight away. There is no time for waiting. It has been a tough few days but this is a time for us to come together. We know people are looking at us to see how we react.

"We don't need to question our ability. If we weren't creating chances and it looked like we were never going to score, we would have something to worry about. The problem is we have not capitalised on the chances we have created. Against Everton we had enough opportunities to win two games and that is the story of our season. As a team we need to become more clinical in front of goal and defend leads a lot better.

“The effect on the lads of going out of Europe was massive. Going out of the European Cup at any stage is bad, nobody wants that, but going out at the group stage was really disappointing.

"Some of the criticism has been blown out of all proportion. You expect that at a massive club but I don't think everything is doom and gloom. We are still upbeat. We just need to get some consistency into our football."
