The Screws:

Winger Cristiano Ronaldo will sign a new £50,000-a-week three year deal next week and Rio Ferdinand will put pen to paper in a fortnight.

Chief Executive Gill is away for two weeks on holiday so Ferdinand's talks will not move until he returns. Finance Director Nick Humby will sign Ronaldo's new deal.

Ronaldo in Portuguese paper O Jogo:

"We have spoken about the important questions and I believe that I will sign with Manchester United, but still I have not signed the contract to date

"The negotiations are going well. My agent Jorge Mendes is responsible for this and I expect a happy solution.

"I am happy to sign, but I have two more years on my contract. The proposition is for another three years.

"I am settled at Manchester United, but if the club decides my exit, there is nothing I can do. It is the decision of the coach, but I am happy at United because this is the club where I want to follow.

"It is difficult to talk of a contract for the whole of your career like Carlos Queiroz said.

"No one knows the future, but I intend to fulfil my contract. I reiterate that I am calm about my future."
