RIO DEFENDS PARAGUAY DISPLAY

Rio Ferdinand thinks that England need to secure points before worrying about good displays in the World Cup.

"Good, bad or ugly, the three points were imperative in the first game and we got them. Now we have got the chance to build on that with our defence.

"If you don't concede goals you have always got a chance of winning games and, with the strikers and midfielders we have got, we have always got a chance of scoring.

"I'm enjoying playing in this defence. We have got a number of leaders and that's so important."

"I would not say we were concerned because there are not many games you're going to win by two or three clear goals.

"This game was all about getting the goal, keeping the lead, and consolidating it," he said.

"When you're only one goal up you have to be on your toes more. We are all aware that we don't want them to get a goal which would put them back in the game."
