'Ivica Olic got off scot-free when UEFA accepted the player’s explanation that two doctors had administered a banned substance to treat his rib injury.

The doctors had failed to complete an exemption form which would have allowed the drug Methylpresnisolone to be used,' reports The Sun.

Having been banned for eight months for being a dope rather than being on anything Ferdinand said: "It’s amazing. UEFA accepted his explanation but nobody wanted to accept mine. I didn’t fail a test but it seems there’s one rule for some and another for people like me. I’m not saying Olic should have been banned, I’m just saying I had a valid reason but our FA were not prepared to listen. It does not make any sense to me."

A UEFA spokesman said: "This was simply a case of the correct people not being informed because of a mix-up. It was the doctor’s duty to inform the Croatian FA doctor but this did not happen. That is why they have been fined and warned rather than the player."
