ROBSON BACKS FERGIE

Bryan Robson has leapt to the defence of the manager who once created strong free-flowing teams.

"He is still the man everyone should look up to," said Robson. "You know the knives are going to be out for Sir Alex and for any manager's job in The Premiership now. If you are not doing well, then there will be knives."

United are lagging behind Chelsea in The Premiership, but Robson would not put it beyond the Scot to overhaul Jose Mourinho.

"United will set their stall out now to bounce back," added Robson. "They are still in three domestic competitions and will do the best they can to win all three.

"Is it beyond them to win the league? No. Chelsea are obviously favourites because they have an outstanding team but Manchester United are sticking with them and have come into some good form of late.

"You can only say the league would have been over if Chelsea had beaten Manchester United but they didn't. The 1-0 win for United has just kept the door open."
