Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Ronaldo has agreed terms with United over his new contract and that he is ready to sign up until 2010.

He told Portuguese newspaper A-Bola:

"Everything has been sorted out in terms of numbers and Cristiano will sign the new deal today," (Er, well shouldn't it be signed by now?)

"Cristiano is a fantastic player," said Ferguson.

"Along with Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea, he is the future of Manchester United.

"I do not know if he will stay with us as many years as Ryan Giggs but I know that he will give us a lot of joy."

Meanwhile Ronaldo has told O Jogo

"We have spoken about the important questions and I believe that I will sign with Manchester United, but still I have not signed the contract to date

"No one from Manchester United have spoken to me while in the Algarve.

"The negotiations are going well. My agent Jorge Mendes is responsible for this and I expect a happy solution.

"I am happy to sign, but I have two more years on my contract. The proposition is for another three years.

"I am settled at Manchester United, but if the club decides my exit, there is nothing I can do.

"It is the decision of the coach, but I am happy at United because this is the club where I want to follow.

"It is difficult to talk of a contract for the whole of your career like Carlos Queiroz said.

"No one knows the future, but I intend to fulfill my contract.

"I reiterate that I am calm about my future."
