RONALDO'S HAPPY

From the MEN:

Cristiano Ronaldo is following in David Beckham's footsteps and turning terrace vitriol into personal victory.

Radio Manchester pundit and ex-Red full back Arthur Albiston has watched Ronaldo turn it on at Charlton and Watford to ram the boos down the fans throats.

“Only the best players get the stick and Cristiano is one of the best. They gave it to Beckham in '98 not only because of the World Cup incident but also because he was a danger. It's the same with Ronaldo. If he wasn't a threat to their team then nobody would really have bothered about it.

“It's the eye-catching players who get the abuse and they are the ones who have the armoury to respond. George Best and Eric Cantona shrugged off abuse and became more deadly because of it.

“United players get used to barracking on away grounds. Cristiano will have had that already in his three years at Old Trafford. It is more intense now but it doesn't seem to worry him at all.

“Ronaldo appears to be playing more with a smile on his face now. He seems to be enjoying it. There has always been a great player in Ronaldo with a fabulous box of tricks but I think you will see an even better player now.”
