"Everton always wanted me to play for Everton. That's why this deal took this long because they wanted me to stay but I wanted to move on.
"I made my mind up six weeks ago that I wanted to leave Everton. Everton were aware of that. The only way I really could leave the club is if I handed a transfer request in, which I did.
"There were a lot of things that happened behind the scenes which no-one really knows about. I don't want to speak about that, there were a lot of difficulties. It is tough for Evertonians because I came through and they see me as one of their own.
"But I want to move on for myself and I see no better place than here."
