ROONEY GIVEN TWO MATCH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BAN

The Scotsman (why not?) report:

‘Wayne Rooney will not be seen in Champions League action until November after the Manchester United striker yesterday decided to accept his two-match ban from UEFA.

‘The England international was expecting to serve a one-game suspension after being red-carded in last week's draw with Villarreal for sarcastically clapping referee Kim Milton Nielsen right under the Danish official's nose after the forward was initially cautioned for a late tackle

‘But Rooney learned yesterday that UEFA had doubled the punishment in response to the player's four-letter tirade before he left the pitch. United had been given until tomorrow to lodge an appeal but, after considering their position, have instead chosen to accept the decision and let the matter rest.’
