ROONEY HAPPY WITH EURO GOAL OUTPUT

Last updated : 29 April 2007 By Editor

"According to you guys [the press], I've been on a goal drought all season and last season and the season before. If you're not scoring and it affects the result, then of course it bothers you. But in games when I've not scored, we've usually won so it hasn't bothered me. I hope to end up with more than 25 goals and I've had a little bet with the manager that I'll do so. I can't tell you how much.

"It was only natural that we should find it difficult against players like [Paolo] Maldini, who had been there many times, because we were only young lads, boys if you like. But we've grown up as a team, we've matured as a team and after two years growing up together, we know each other's game better and I'd like to think that we've become more clinical. For me, personally, I feel more at home on this stage now. I feel as though I've grown up over the past two years.

"I have dreamed of playing in and winning a Champions League final and I want it more than anything. Before we can even think about that, we have to concentrate on Milan. We have to be disciplined and composed and hopefully we can get the result we need.

"We always play to the end. You've seen Chelsea do the same, which you expect from teams trying to win everything. It's a good battle between the three British teams in Europe.

"Playing for England and United are two completely different things.

"I don't know whether it would be a case of making up for the World Cup disappointment by winning the Champions League, but it would be a great trophy to win because it is the biggest club competition in the world.

"Going back to Milan is a big task because when we went there two years ago and lost we struggled a bit.

"The likes of myself, Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher were young lads at the time and it showed when we played such an experienced Milan side with players like Paolo Maldini.

"But we've grown up since then and matured as a team. We also never know when we are beaten. Hopefully we can go to Milan on Wednesday and finish the job."
