RUUD IS DISAPPOINTED

Van Nistelrooy scored his 39th goal of the season last night
and is upset that we didn’t progress further in the
Champions League:

“If you score four and go out it has got to be
disappointing. It is disappointing not to go through after
scoring five goals against Real Madrid in two games. Winning
4-3 was a good result, but it just wasn't enough. We never
stopped trying and got a result in the end, but if we had
scored our fourth, 10 or 15 minutes earlier, you never know
what might have happened."

He didn’t expect it to be an easy ride and feels that United
did all they could:

"You are never going to win the Champions League easily, it
is always hard and I think we gave our best. Everybody gave
everything he had inside him and in that case we can look
each other in the eye. We have a lot of good players and we
can improve and there are a lot of good years ahead."

As for the title race, he doesn’t feel that last night’s
setback will affect our chances:

"There will be no problem about picking ourselves up after
this. The feeling in the dressing room, and the way I feel
myself, is that we are disappointed but not down like we
didn't perform. We performed to our capabilities and beat
Real Madrid 4-3. That is a great result. We did well to win.
We showed what we are capable of. We can play and we can
create chances. We have the heart to play. You are not going
to win the Champions League easily. It is hard but everybody
gave their best. We gave everything and so we can look each
other in the eye.”
