RUUD SAYS HE STAYS

"I'm enjoying my football, the fans are second to none and any reports of me leaving are just wild rumours.

"I thought long and hard about the implications of signing a new four-year contract at United and I have no regrets whatsoever.

"I have said so many times in the past that I would be happy to see out the best days of my career at this club and nothing has changed.

"To suggest that I want to leave is ludicrous - I don't know where these stories are coming from.

"I have no desire to go to Italy or Spain. I don't care when I read in the newspaper that I am going to Real Madrid or Barcelona after this season. It's all total rubbish.

"There everyone wants to touch you, own you and approach you. I try to be as kind as possible to all my fans, but in those countries I know I couldn't cope.

"They want to be on top of you all day like they own you and that is not the life for me.

"Life where I live now is so similar to Brabant, the county in Holland where I come from. I am never homesick - that says enough, doesn't it?"

Fergie in a classic 'Check under the sauce for the pasta' moment:

"You can't trust these people. You are asking me to trust a Spaniard."

SAF, reacting to what he sees as Barca stirring trouble: "It is absolute nonsense. His agent was in here yesterday and he denies it completely."

"Would you trust these people? Would you believe them?

"Every year we hear the same thing. Real Madrid are not interested in Ronaldo, not interested in Beckham.

"All I am going to say about it is that his agent did not speak to Barcelona. He was in here on Thursday and spoke to me."
