SCHOLES HOPES KIDS WILL SUCCEED

Paul Scholes is hopeful that United's youngsters on tour in South Africa get their chance to show what they can do in the premiership.

"Only time will tell how good they are," said Scholes. "But there are some really good players coming through. And I think they'll probably get their chance now because we don't have as big a squad as we've had in the past.

"Some of them are 20 or 21 now, so they need to be playing and showing what they can do.

"The likes of Paul Ince, Peter Schmeichel, Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce were hard on us when we were coming through, but we're a lot quieter, so maybe the current lot of young lads get it a bit easier. Rossi is a centre-forward and he has scored a lot of goals. I scored a lot when I was younger, just playing off the main striker, and he's doing that as well. I've no doubt Rossi will one day be a great player."

He also wants to win more Premiership trophies.

"It's not nice seeing Chelsea pick up the trophy at the end of the season. We want it back as much now as we did the first season we lost it.

"Winning the Premiership is more important than winning the Champions League. The European Cup is a big thing, but being English and with the Premiership being so massive, I think we have to concentrate on that.

"We've said for the last two seasons that this is the year we're going to catch Chelsea, but we haven't managed it. We can only hope we do it this season."
