SCHOLES' PRAISE FOR THE DEFENCE

Scholes said:

"The defence has been brilliant and if there has been any
weakness it has been the midfield and the forwards who have
not been scoring as many goals as we normally do.

"We have been very tight in defence and while last year we
were going into games and thinking we had to score more
goals than the opposition, now we feel that if we go a goal
up we can hold on to it.

"I think it inspires you a little bit that you can go out
and attack teams and try to score goals and we will take
that from every game from now till the end of the season."

He also gave Barthez particular praise saying:

"Fabien has had a great season and keepers do win you a lot
of points and last week [at Aston Villa] it was one of those
games.

"You only have to look at the goals conceded to say this has
been his best season since he came here.

"In his first season I also though he was brilliant, but
this season he has been even better.

"I suppose it takes a while for a foreign player to settle
in but he has and he has proved quite a character. He lets
himself be heard and is good to have around."
