Michael Owen was full of praise for Wayne Rooney after England’s defeat of Argentina.
"You gain things and you lose things as you get older," he said. "Wayne Rooney is a fearless type of person. As he grows older, he will probably understand a lot more and have a bit of realisation of what football's all about. At the minute, it's a positive for him because he has no fear.
"It doesn't matter who Wayne plays against. He can rise to an occasion. He's a big-game player. That's what you need in a World Cup. You need a player who doesn't just score a hat-trick against a smaller nation but does it against the proper teams and puts in performances like that. He is just so confident in himself."
