From the Mirror:

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has slammed the behaviour of some Reds fans towards Manchester United.

He hit out following the taunts aimed at Alan Smith over his recent broken leg at Anfield, the attack on an ambulance carrying him to hospital, the vile chants at United skipper Gary Neville and references to the 1958 Munich air disaster.

“It's unacceptable and we won't shy away from saying so. No excuses from us. There was behaviour on the day that was not acceptable from some A Liverpool fans and not just related to Alan Smith.

“We pride ourselves, justifiably, on having a fantastic reputation across the world of football. On occasions, when we fall short, we have to stand up and be counted. It's simply out of order.

“We have to utterly condemn any Munich songs or offensive gestures. Some of the chanting against Gary Neville, regardless of his previous behaviour, was also near the knuckle.

“It strikes home when you look round and see youngsters in the crowd who are asking their parents what it’s all about.

“We cannot justify any actions by what might have happened on the other side. People can talk about provocation but you still can’t accept it.”
