Sevilla chasing Edinson Cavani as Anthony Martial deal stalls

Sevilla are looking to sign at least one forward from Manchester United this winter, and after voicing an interest in Anthony Martial, have now reached out to Edinson Cavani.

90min has confirmed reports that Martial is keen to join Sevilla in January as he eyes the regular playing time needed to cement a spot in the France squad for the 2022 World Cup, but United's financial demands could prove problematic.

United are not desperate to offload Martial, who remains under contract until 2024 and has the option for a further 12 months, and they are ready to demand that any interested side pays the majority of his wages on loan as well as agreeing to a mandatory purchase clause.

Sevilla are reluctant to make that kind of commitment, and Mundo Deportivo state that they have now identified Cavani as a potential alternative.

Cavani has already received plenty of interest from Spain, with Barcelona keen on signing him if they can clear the space in the squad - something which appears unlikely after they struck a £55m deal to sign Manchester City's Ferran Torres.

With a dream move to Camp Nou currently uncertain, Cavani has been contacted by Sevilla, who are looking for some more firepower to boost their push for the La Liga title.

As of yet, Cavani has made no decision. He is believed to be prioritising a move to Barcelona and is waiting to find out whether they can actually sign him, but if they cannot, a switch to Sevilla could be on the cards.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Martial has held talks with United interim boss Ralf Rangnick about his future.

Martial was present at the club's Carrington training ground on Wednesday to speak to Rangnick and voice his desire to leave Old Trafford, after the boss challenged him to do so instead of relying on his agent.

Barcelona and Juventus are both tracking the situation, as are Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon and Newcastle United.
