SHEARER IS NOTHING SPECIAL

Ahead of the Champions League clash tonight, Mendieta said:

"Alan Shearer is a skilful and experienced striker. His big
strength is that he uses his elbows well. He is a typically
British striker. He would have got a good welcome if he had
come to Spain but I would not swap him for any of our
strikers.

"Hypothetically speaking, Patrick Kluivert, Javier Saviola
and Dani give more to Barcelona than Shearer could. Football
is not just about physical force."

Barcelona boss and United hero Radi Antic joins in:

"The English game is of a good standard and it's getting
better with the years, but success in Spain or Italy has
more meaning.

"For that reason there will always be a doubt as to how good
Shearer is. He is typically British and physical. In Britain
they value his kind of game more.

"I seriously doubt whether he would have scored as many
goals in Spain as he has in the Premiership.”
