Shocking Stat Shows Jesse Lingard's Premier League Struggles at Manchester United in 2019

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has ended the calendar year with an awful Premier League stat to his name after going through the last 12 months without a single goal or assist in the top flight.

The has been involved in three goals across all other competitions during 2019, scoring in the Europa League and FA Cup while also picking up an assist in the Carabao Cup.

But Lingard didn't pick up a single goal or assist during the calendar year in the Premier League, despite making 28 appearances for Manchester United.

Crucially, this stat comes with the caveat that winning a penalty doesn't count as an assist - websites like Transfermarkt do count these as assists - as Lingard actually won his side a spot-kick which was converted by Paul Pogba against Burnley earlier this year.

Lingard has been involved in 49 goals for Manchester United, with the England international closing in on his 200th appearance for the club.

His best-ever season for the club came back in 2017/18, where Lingard scored 13 goals and picked up seven assists across all competitions.

Throughout 2019, Manchester United have had 17 different players contribute with either a goal or an assist in the Premier League.

While Lingard isn't on that list, the likes of Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw, Fred and Ashley Young have all directly been involved in at least one goal in the top flight.

In just 10 Premier League appearances in 2019, even Alexis Sánchez set up a goal for Manchester United during the calendar year - a late Marcus Rashford goal against Newcastle United on January 2.
