Further revelations from Harry Gregg’s book, Harry’s Game in The NOTW:

“It was in 1958 and I remember an amazing incident involving myself and Bobby Charlton.

“Back in those days a committee was formed among the players who would seta price for Cup Final tickets.

“In that year both Bobby and I had been away on international duty when the Cup Final tickets were handed out.

“Bobby took me to a bookmaker where we met this huge lump of a man with minders by his side.

“The bookie announced that the bottom of the market had dropped out and he was giving us a lower price.

“I asked for the tickets back but the he refused. All along I noticed Bobby was edging further and further away to the other side of the room because he was clearly sensing the danger we were in.

“Eventually the bookie advised me to speak to Bill Foulkes and he confirmed the price.”

“With the money we made we went straight across the road and bought a Vauxhall Victor each. Bobby got a red one and mine was blue.”
