From The Times:

‘Despite the game supposedly being in a financial crisis, the Sunday Times Pay List includes more footballers in the top 500 earners than ever before.

However, the highest earner in the sport is neither a player nor a manager, but Martin Edwards, former chairman and chief executive of Manchester United, who made £20.058 million last year after selling most of his family's substantial shareholding in the Old Trafford club. [if only he was the former chairman]

England skipper Beckham is not far behind, having pocketed an astonishing £15.5million last year largely due to his huge portfolio of endorsement deals off the pitch.

Three other players at United appear in the top seven places in the list - Roy Keane (£6.93million), Rio Ferdinand (£4.295million) and Juan Sebastian Veron (£4.14million) - and 14 members of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad are included in total.

The other clubs providing the most entries are Arsenal (seven), Chelsea (six), Liverpool (four), Celtic (three), and Leeds, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers (two each).’
