SMUDGE READY FOR SPURS

Alan Smith says he is ready to play again and he wants to feature against Spurs.

'I am fed up of watching,' he told MUTV.

'I am just itching to get involved again now. I have had to put the reins on myself a little bit but overall I can't wait.'

'If the gaffer were to ask me if I would be ready for the bench against Spurs, I would say 'yes' without any hesitation,'

'Ninety minutes of Premiership football would be very difficult at the moment but to come on as a substitute would be no problem.

'If you are playing at Old Trafford, you get that adrenaline rush and that would see you through.

'If it is not this weekend then we have the Champions League starting next week against Celtic and, with seven allowed on the bench, then there might be a chance.'

And speaking about the Carling Cup final when United's players took off their shirts to reveal T-shirts bearing the words “For You Smudge”. Smith said:

“I don't really show my emotions, and I don't get overwhelmed that much, but I had a lump in my throat that day,” he said.

“I hope that when I am fit and back in the first team, I can repay everybody for their support by helping us to regain the title.

“I can't wait to get back. Most people only dream about playing for a club such as this, and for the last few months that is what it has been like.”
