SMUDGER WANTS TO STAY

Alan Smith has denied the rumours linking him with a move away from United, "It's just newspaper talk. I'm one hundred per cent happy here, simple as that. Every player wants to play football but everyone that comes to this club knows nobody is guaranteed a place. If your performances aren't good enough you've got to hold your hands up and let someone else have their chance.

"Maybe people outside the club people don't realise that but those on the inside know it is about the squad here. I'm amongst a great set of lads and one hundred per cent happy."
