SO COLEEN…

It wasn’t a one-way ticket out of the cesspit that is Merseyside was it?

From the Mirror:

Coleen McLoughlin was urged to give Wayne Rooney the boot yesterday as she contemplated her future 2,000 miles away from him. Friends are furious after the England star was seen slapping her across the face in a nightclub.

And as she worked on a fashion shoot for Vogue in Cyprus, they warned he could do it again. One said:

"She's got to get rid of him - he's got no respect for her and treats her like dirt. It's bad enough he went with prossies, if he hit her as well then that's bang out of order.

"She's trying to shrug the whole thing off as Wayne being Wayne, but hitting a woman is the lowest. He's behaved like scum. If he thinks he can get away with a slap now, then he'll do it again."

The Manchester United striker was said to have pulled Coleen's hair and thrown a drink over her, before slapping her. It was claimed he was upset because he wanted to spend some time alone with her before she flew to Cyprus.

He stormed back into Cheshire nightspot Brasingamens after waiting for more than an hour at home for Coleen to return.

United team-mates, including Rio Ferdinand, allegedly calmed him down after the blazing row. But spokesmen for both Rooney and Coleen deny he hit her. And yesterday her parents put on a united front for their daughter.

Rooney had been welcome at their home the previous night.

Mum Colette, from Croxteth, Liverpool, said: "Wayne's been staying overnight and he wouldn't be doing that if there was a problem, would he?

"They did have an argument like all young couples do but it was nothing like what was said. Coleen says it's all a load of rubbish."

The Sun reports:

Rooney slapped his fiancée Coleen because she accused him of risking her health by bedding hookers. Coleen, 18, yelled the rebuke at Man U star Rooney in a club in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, after he ordered her to go home.

In other reports:

Teenage superstar Wayne Rooney was subjected to Fergie's infamous 'hairdryer' treatment on a one-to-one basis yesterday after fresh allegations concerning his private life.

One insider revealed: "Fergie had been storing up his anger since losing to Norwich at the weekend and the Rooney business just made it much worse for everybody."

Fergie's explosion of rage at the club's training ground which revealed the scale of the crisis that has engulfed United ahead of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with Newcastle.

Sir Alex Ferguson gave Rooney a dressing down yesterday over the slap incident. Rooney was summoned into the boss’s office after he arrived for training. A Manchester United insider said:

“Sir Alex was absolutely livid. Rooney was forced to explain himself. Wayne admitted there was an argument but insisted that people were out to get him. But Sir Alex told him that he couldn’t fight his corner forever if incidents like this continued to plague him. He expects discipline.”

But the striker will not be fined by the club because the nightclub incident happened after the players had been given two days off.
