SPANISH NEW BULLETIN

Our correspondent in Spain reports that the general feeling
amongst Madrid fans is that Madrid would have wiped the
floor, 5 or 6-0, with any team in Europe other than United.

Madrid's first-half performance was the best they have seen
in years and equal to any they can remember from legendary
teams in the past.

Apparently United are the only team this season to go to
Bernabeu to attack and only team to create as many chances
as they did. Feelings are confident but with a realisation
that there is still a job to do.

Statistics look good for United though, Madrid have gone
into the return match of European ties with a 3-1 advantage
on seven occasions and they have been eliminated four times.

1971/72 PSV 2 Madrid 0
1978/79 Grasshoppers 2 Madrid 0
1981/82 Kaiserslauten 5 Madrid 0
1992/93 PSG 4 Madrid 1

And don’t expect a big following for the second leg, only
400 Madrid fans are expected to travel to Old Trafford for
the return leg. The fans will be members of the Peñas
(supporters clubs) La Gran Familia and Cinco Estrellas. The
problematic Ultra Sur group will not receive tickets and
will not travel.
