SPOILT FOR CHOICE

"When I played Tim Howard in America last summer [pre-season tour], I was quite startled by his level of goalkeeping, his speed and his decision making, his use of the ball, his kicking. Right up to the beginning of January he was magnificent, though I should have rested him in December. Then Roy Carroll came in and was terrific - his early save against Arsenal in the semi-final laid the foundation for victory.

"I would like to play both Howard and Carroll but you can't put one somewhere else, like you can with an outfield player. At the end of the day, I just hope that the one who misses out understands my decision."
