SPOT OF BOTHER

This is what they say:

The incident happened after Manchester United star Ferdinand, 24, and defender Terry, 22, called staff to fix a jammed pool table at 3.30am. The entire team was under orders to be in bed by 1am at the latest.

The pool table had been specially set up for the England players in the Grand Ballroom on the third floor of the hotel's east wing.

When maintenance man Jose Toralba arrived, there was an exchange between him and Terry and Ferdinand grabbed Toralba from behind and pinned his arms to his sides.

As Toralba struggled and pleaded to be released, banqueting manager Pedro Perez intervened and tried to pull Ferdinand off.

The enraged star pushed Toralba away, grabbed Perez by the throat and pinned him to the wall, hissing: "Don't you touch me."

Terrified Toralba, 32, used his walkie-talkie to call for help and the two footballers immediately tried to stop him, grabbing his arms. But he broke free and raised the alarm.

Ferdinand then pleaded with his two victims to tell security to turn back. He even tried to offer them a tip.

But the pair refused and repeated their calls for help over the radio. At this point players ran away and hid in their rooms.

Minutes later England security chief Ray Whitworth was called out of bed to placate the hotel staff.

He marched Ferdinand back to the Grand Ballroom and made him apologise to the men he had attacked.
