ST NICK AT ST JAMES

"I haven’t come here just to sit on my backside thinking my best days are behind me.

"I wouldn’t have moved if I didn’t think we couldn’t win trophies.

"I want to fulfil my potential at Newcastle. It’s a long time since we won some silverware and it’s my ambition to try and change all that.

"I was lucky enough to win seven championship medals with Manchester United, but I’m not one for looking backwards and my trophy count is zero at this club; the same as everyone else’s.

"I want to look forward. Newcastle are known throughout the Premiership as being a very attacking side and perhaps I will be able to offer them something different with the way I play."

He came on as sub as the Barcodes beat Rangers 4-2.

Shearer was interviewed afterwards and was very cool about his manager. We'll have to give him a nice send-off when he's at Old TTrafford for the last time this season - if selected that is.
