Stating The Obvious

Ferguson is concerned by United wasting chances in front of goal. He told Sky Sports News:

"Owen Hargreaves is very painful in his knees. It was his first game and I don't think he'll be available for Wednesday.

"We had enough chances and played fantastic football at times.

"We were just wasteful, we had so many opportunities to win it ourselves.

"I can't fault the performance - we completely dominated. But we should have sewn the game up.

"Of course you miss strikers but the number of chances we had and the amount of possession we should have won the game."

"We've got ourselves an uphill battle.

"We need to get a win under our belts."

City weren't lucky.

"I don't think you can even say City were lucky because we had so many opportunities to win it ourselves, so it is our own fault, we haven't won it because of our own disappointments in the last third of the field.

"I'm disappointed with the result, there's no question about that, but I can't fault the performance it was outstanding, we completely dominated the football match."

It was easier before.

"It will take a long time to explain that (not scoring), but we had enough chances," said Ferguson. "We have given ourselves an uphill fight now. Maybe 10 years ago we could have handled a start like this, because we were always strong in the second half of the season. Now we're going to have to be that strong.

"Our next game, against Tottenham on Sunday, is now really important."
