STILL NO BIDS FOR ST NICK OF GORTON

"There is only a week left for us to lose Nicky but you would have thought there would be a good deal of interest.

"There was a query from Tottenham a couple of weeks ago and there was an inquiry from Everton."

SAF revealed that Birmingham had made an enquiry:

"Karen Brady phoned David Gill and we told her what we were looking for and things like that, and I think Birmingham are trying to structure a deal which would allow them to talk to Nicky. I don't know if they have spoken to him yet."

He expects that Boro may come in:

"I think Middlesbrough might still come in, but Steve had his cup tie last Wednesday and we have been away.

"Ideally I'd like Nicky to stay, but I understand his situation.

"Letting Nicky go somewhere on loan is not an option."

The NOTW quote a Birmingham 'insider' as saying: "Wages would be no problem to us and we are actively pursuing him. However we get the impression he has other options."

Robbie Savage says: "Nicky Butt's name has been mentioned as a possible signing for Birmingham City and it would be a fantastic achievement if we could get him. He would be a great addition to the squad. You wonder what would happen if someone is brought in in your position and it would be up to the manager who he would leave out.

"If we got Nicky Butt, I know that he plays in my position. But he is a world-class player who would be welcome.

"If you get left out you've got to work exceptionally hard. After all, there are two people to play in central midfield and it would be up to me to get one of those spots."
