SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HORIZON

Barca may be feted in song but surely it’s not worth these two going there? Today’s the Sun claims:

RVN has become a £40million target for Barcelona. And that could see him team up with Dutch pal Patrick Kluivert.

Spanish giants Barca will be holding elections for a new president next month. And several contenders have put the Manchester United hitman top of their shopping list.

Ex-Barcelona vice-president Josep Martinez-Rovira, who is in the running, admitted:

"We have spoken to Ruud's agent and we believe the player is very interested in joining our project to make us great again. He is interested in the proposal we have made to him.

"He is one of the best footballers in the world and signing him would delight our fans."

Jordi Majo, who is also in the running for Barca president, claimed:

"I was the first candidate to contact Ruud. His agent has told us he will not come to Barcelona until we have elected a new president. Van Nistelrooy needs to know our future plans."

A third candidate, Jordi Medina, threw Leeds star Harry Kewell's name into the ring:

"We have spoken to Lazio about Jaap Stam because the Italians still owe money to United. But we have also started talking to Leeds and Harry Kewell. In financial terms, it is a transfer we can handle."

While the Beeb and Times continues with the Becks line:

Barcelona are reported to have joined the chase to sign Manchester United midfielder David Beckham.

The Times newspaper claims that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to sanction the sale of England captain Beckham if a club comes in with a £30m bid.

That would give Ferguson the funds to strengthen his squad over the summer and boost United's chances of winning next season's Champions League.

Ferguson is keen to buy a world-class goalkeeper, defender and striker as he looks to win a ninth Premiership title in 12 years next season.

United chief executive Peter Kenyon told the BBC on 11 May that he would seriously consider any offer for Beckham that topped £30m.

"It would be remiss of us not to," Kenyon said.

One source told RI that United have accepted hard bids for Beckham but Fergie is at present reluctant to sell, though that could change if other funds are not available.
