SWISS CARNIVAL CANCELLED

FC Basle coach Christian Gross brought forward his side's flight to England for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Manchester United to prevent his players from partying at the city's annual carnival.

Gross took no chances as his squad headed to Manchester on Monday morning just hours after the 'Fasnacht' (three wonderful days) carnival started at 4am.
'I generally trust my players but I don't want to risk anything,' Gross told Swiss daily Blick. 'I know how tempting this carnival is.”

'It's a pity because I would have loved to party the night away,' midfielder Hakan Yakin told Blick. 'But how often do you get to play at Old Trafford? That is more important than carnival night.'
