THE ART OF DEFENDING, PART 1

The Sun is trying to stir up more trouble in the Roy Keane saga:

Custis reports

The FA may also be interested in a new shock assessment of his infamous
stamp on Gareth Southgate in the 1995 FA Cup semi-final.

Keane said: "He shouldn't be lying on the floor. Defenders shouldn't be on
their backsides. I felt that he got in the way."

While Keane continues to sound off, another United legend - Bryan Robson -
says it is time he calmed down or he could up end up ruining his career.

Robson said: "Roy loves playing football, wants to win things and, right now,
he is at his peak. He could play on for another five or six years.

"But he cannot keep overstepping the mark and needs to learn to control
himself. He is experienced enough and should know what to do.

"I was an aggressive player but I only got sent off once. What he did at
Sunderland, you cannot condone because he should know better."

Robson believes it is time Keane and Arsenal's Patrick Vieira, who was also
sent off again last weekend, started taking a leaf out of Alan Shearer's book in
being a role model for kids.

He said: "Shearer is very aggressive and an outright winner but he has not got
the aggression in his personality that Roy has.

"Alan is cool and calculated where Roy is more fiery like Vieira. Kids watch
them and they should be leading by example."

Robson believes Keane's two to three month lay-off after his hip operation this
week could prove to be a good thing. He said: "Roy must disappear into the
background, start assessing where he's going wrong and then keep out of
trouble. The injury might help him do that."
