THE ART OF DEFENDING PART 2

Last updated : 06 September 2002 By Editor

Roy Keane will defend the two disrepute charges that the FA slapped on him
following his autobiography. Keano has been charged with being 'improperly
motivated' for his tackle on Haaland and then 'publishing for financial profit or
reward an account of his autobiography, in which he speaks of a desire to
exact revenge on Haaland, therefore bringing the game into disrepute.'

Roy has got two weeks in which to launch his defence and maybe make a
personal appearance before the football authorities.

Michael Kennedy, Keano's solicitor told the M.E.N

"In conjunction with the club, Roy will be defending the charges,"

"He'll consider the allegations and then respond."

Alongside Keane and Kennedy will be United's lawyer Maurice Watkins. They are allegedly going to argue that the player has already been punished for the challenge on Haaland having served an automatic ban. Keane's ghost-writer, Eamon Dunphy, has also admitted to using 'journalistic license' in the offending paragraph relating to the incident in the autobiography. He's got two weeks in which to present his case.
